Frey, assistant professor of philosophy at the University of South Carolina, on the work and life of Southern writer Walker Percy. They discuss the overlapping themes of his novels, his conversion to Catholicism, and the human desire to know ourselves.
“What really interests Walker Percy is how to be an ‘Ex-Suicide.’ That is to say how to live and love in the ruins,” Frey said. “To see that we are in the ruins of something and that all of the old values have passed away and nothing interesting has come to replace them.”
