The Drake Institute for Teaching and Learning invites instructors to join an instructional redesign cohort focused on information literacy, scheduled from June 9-July 1. Facilitated by Assistant Professor Jane Hammons, University Libraries, this professional learning experience will provide guidance for strategically and purposefully integrating information literacy into courses.

During this period, participants will complete Teaching Information Literacy, a 6-module online course in CarmenCanvas. Participants will be expected to complete 2 course modules per week (approximately two hours per module). In each module, participants will complete activities designed to help them build an action plan for integrating information literacy into an instruction session, course, or program. Participants will submit their action plan in the final course module.

In addition to the asynchronous course in CarmenCanvas, participants will be encouraged to attend 3 live cohort meetings:

   • June 15, 3:00-4:00
   • June 22, 3:00-4:00
   • June 29, 3:00-4:00

Participants will also have the option to request individual consultations with the course facilitator.

After this workshop participants will be able to:
   • Describe how the purposeful teaching of information literacy skills and concepts can improve student learning
   • Use the Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education to identify gaps in student knowledge related to research, scholarship, and information use
   • Employ instructional design strategies to develop or revise an assignment, activity, or course in order to teach information literacy
