Employee Accommodation Requests

DePaul University is committed to providing equal employment opportunity and reasonable accommodation(s) for qualified individuals with disabilities and acts in accordance with applicable law, including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Although it is the university's responsibility to provide reasonable accommodations, it is the employee's responsibility to alert the university that an accommodation is needed.  Employees seeking reasonable accommodation are expected to participate in an interactive process with the university to identify an effective reasonable accommodation.

DePaul will make, upon request and appropriate documentation, reasonable accommodation for an individual with a disability who meets the necessary skill, experience, education, training and other job-related requirements of a position and who can perform the essential functions of the job with or without accommodation. A reasonable accommodation is a change or adjustment to a job or work environment that permits the qualified individual with a disability to perform the essential functions of a job or to enjoy the benefits and privileges of employment equal to those enjoyed by individuals without disabilities.

When a job accommodation is requested, a representative of ER&EEO will confer with the employee with regard to the type of accommodation that will enable the employee to perform the essential functions of the position. The requirements of the particular position and the employee’s accommodation needs will be evaluated in order to identify potential accommodations that will be effective and reasonable. So long as the accommodation is reasonable, it need not be the specific accommodation requested by the employee. The university is not required to provide an accommodation that would impose an undue hardship on the university.

The employee or potential employee will be required to complete the Accommodation for Disability Form and provide physician certification of his/her disability.

Please contact employeerelations@depaul.edu to request the physician certification form.

DePaul University respects the religious beliefs and practices of all employees and potential employees and will make, upon request, a reasonable accommodation for such observances.

When a religious accommodation is requested, a representative of ER&EEO will confer with the employee with regard to the types of possible accommodations that may resolve a conflict between the employee's religious obligation and a work requirement. The requirements of the particular position and the employee's religious observance needs will be evaluated in order to identify potential accommodations that will be effective and reasonable. So long as the accommodation is reasonable, it need not be the specific accommodation requested by the employee. The university is not required to provide an accommodation that would impose an undue hardship on the university.

The employee or potential employee will be required to complete the Accommodation for Religious Practices Form.

Additional information may be found in the university's Accommodation policy.
