Electrochemical oxidation of cyclic and biogenic substrates for high efficiency production of organic chemicals
About us
ELOXYCHEM (ELectrochemical OXidation of cYclic and biogenic substrates for high efficiency production of organic CHEMicals) is a 54 months Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Action project started in January 2024 and supporting the replacement of existing chemical conversion processes that are heavily reliant on imported materials and fossil-fuels. ELOXYCHEM will promote a green and digital transition for Europe demonstrating a new transformational electrochemical conversion platform processes at pilot scale and drop-in replacement technology for chemical conversion. Coordinated by SINTEF and with a consortium of 10 partners, ELOXYCHEM combines the expertise from the fields of electrochemistry, process engineering, analytics, industrial chemicals production, process assessment, machine learning, and digital tools. This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Programme under Grant Agreement No. 101138376, call: HORIZON-CL4-2023-TWIN-TRANSITION-01. 🔊 Theresa Ruecker - Researcher at SINTEF Industry - explains the key role of the chemical industry in achieving EU's green transition: it supplies all other value chains - from food to construction, health and transport - and still relies on thermochemical production processes and imported materials. 💡 In the ELOXYCHEM Project energy-efficient alternatives will be proposed, using waste from other chemical production and by-products from biorefinery to produce chemicals with higher value. 👉 Here the full article: https://lnkd.in/e4UYrvJj Partners: SINTEF Industry | Max Planck Institute |Evonik | IDENER.AI | ETA Florence Renewable Energies| Z Prime | MEGARA RESINS | ESy-Labs GmbH | IMPERIAL COLLEGE OF SCIENCE TECHNOLOGY & MEDICINE| Iconiq Innovation Processes4Planet Partnership | CINEA - European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency #ELOXYCHEM #greenchemistry #electrochemicaloxidation #DDDA #digitalcontrol #renewableenergy #energy #unsaturatedfattyacids #pilotplant #horizoneurope #organicchemicals #greendeal #repowereu

Greening the chemical industry with electricity through the new European ELOXYCHEM Project 🚀 💚 Iconiq are pleased to be a partner in ELOXYCHEM Horizon Europe project. Iconiq led the consortium to secure EUR 10 million funding though the call “Energy efficiency breakthroughs in the process industries, HORIZON-CL4-2023-TWIN-TRANSITION-01-31". We will now support the partners to deliver the project, maximise the commercial impact of the developments, manage the IP and investigate routes to future innovation funding. This is an exciting project with a built-in route to market through specialty chemical and resin manufacturers such as Evonik and Megara Resins. The chemical industry needs green investments to keep up with EU climate goals, to strengthen competitiveness and rapidly move away from thermochemical production processes that use fossil-derived raw materials and energy. Coordinated by SINTEF, ELOXYCHEM Project aims to address electrification in the chemical industry. The key focus is finding new ways to produce carboxylic acids, important building blocks for products such as paints, polymers, catalysts, fine chemicals, agrochemicals, fragrances and dyes. Preliminary calculations estimate that ELOXYCHEM technologies have the potential to reduce both energy consumption and carbon footprint by up to 60% for the production of carboxylic acids. As part of Europe's twin transition drive the new electrochemical process will be demonstrated as a pilot plant capable of multiple tonnes per year operating in an industrial setting with a fully digitalized monitoring and control system augmented by AI-based technology and "digital twinning". The project kick-off meeting took place on February 8/9, 2024, at the production site of Evonik's manufacturing facility in Marl (Germany). The project has been funded by the European Union and Innovate UK.

⚡Last 8 and 9 February, ELOXYCHEM Consortium gathered in Marl, Germany, hosted by Evonik for the project kick-off meeting! 🔌Coordinated by SINTEF and with 10 partners from Norway, Germany, Spain, Italy, Greece and UK, #ELOXYCHEM is a new Horizon Europe project that will support the European green and digital transition establishing commercially relevant elextrochemical oxidation processes to replace existing thermochemical processes - reliant on imported materials and fossil-fuels. 💡#ELOXYCHEM will combine the natural advantages of electrochemical oxidation processes with the opportunities offered by AI strategies, providing to the EU chemical sector highly energy efficient processes. 👏 Thanks to Jana Holthoff and to all the Evonik team for the excellent organization and hospitality! It was a very fruitful meeting and we also had the opportunity to visit Evonik's Marl Chemical Park! 🔋Follow the ELOXYCHEM Project page to avoid missing out any upcoming developments!
