Students with disabilities can experience a layer of barriers, bureaucracy, and stigma that can challenge them on their path to success on our campuses. This is especially acute when their disabilities are non-apparent and/or undisclosed. In this workshop, we will share data and narratives to illustrate how students experience academic and campus practices. We will also discuss culture-setting and stigma-reduction strategies that faculty can utilize to refine their inclusive instructional practices.

In this workshop, participants will learn:

  • Types and characteristics of hidden disabilities.
  • Common accommodations for students with these types of disabilities.
  • Common barriers students with these disabilities face, and how to facilitate eliminating these barriers in their instructional design.
