Ohio State’s online programs rank among nation’s best

Three of The Ohio State University’s online degree programs have been named among the nation’s best by U.S. News & World Report in the 2016 rankings released today.

Ohio State’s online bachelor degree offerings are ranked seventh by the publication. The College of Nursing online graduate program ranked fourth (up from sixth in 2015) and graduate engineering programs placed 25th. Engineering and nursing programs were also recognized as best for veterans in 2015.

Online courses offer flexibility for students – especially students who work – and are gaining in popularity. Ohio State offers 13 online degree programs and is dedicated to building an eLearning portfolio that makes the university a national leader.

“These rankings affirm the hard work of our faculty to build programs that provide a powerful learning experience while addressing the issues of access and affordability that challenge today’s students,” said Mike Hofherr, vice president and chief information officer. “We are proud that our online offerings address the complex needs of students without compromising quality.”

Ensuring that online students receive the same high quality education as those on campus is a core principle of all Ohio State online degrees. “At the College of Nursing, our online students receive the same top-notch education from our world renowned faculty as students on campus,” said Dean Bernadette Melnyk. “This recognition from U.S. News reinforces that our faculty, staff and curricula are among the nation’s best. We prepare students to deliver evidence-based healthcare to improve health and wellness outcomes of people across the nation and globe.”

Engineering and nursing have been at the forefront of online education at Ohio State, where they also continue to transform for the future. “Engineering is both experienced and innovative in delivering online courses,” said Bob Mick, director of professional programs in the College of Engineering. “Our welding engineering program launched the MS online degree more than a decade ago, while our recently launched Master of Global Engineering Leadership uniquely combines engineering, business and policy curriculum.”

Thirteen online programs at Ohio State are available in 47 states. Degrees available include: the registered nurse to bachelor of science in nursing, bachelor of science in health sciences, master of science in nursing, master of science in welding engineering, master of science in dental hygiene, master of science in agricultural and extension education, master of global engineering leadership, master of applied clinical and preclinical research, master of plant health management, doctor of nursing practice, master of art education, master of social work and the dental hygiene baccalaureate degree completion program.
